The trip would humiliate the image of Bangladesh in global arena

Food Minister’s Myanmar trip would encourage the killers of Rohingya Muslims, alleges Secretary General

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 10th September, 2017 surprising at the trip of the food minister Advocate Qamrul Islam and his wife for procuring foods at a time when the Myanmar government is compelling the Rohingya Muslims to flee into Bangladeshi territory by carrying unprecedented tortures, repressions, mass killings, rape and arson against this community.

“We have become surprised and ashamed as the food minister Advocate Qamrul Islam and his wife have gone to Myanmar in a trip for procuring foods at a time when the Myanmar government is compelling the Rohingya Muslims to flee into Bangladeshi territory by carrying unprecedented tortures, repressions, mass killings, rape and arson against this community.

Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam had gained disrespect and notoriety for importing rotten wheat from abroad. The fellow citizens of the country at that time demanded his trial for such scandalous incident. But instead of taking actions against them, the government has made the nation compelled to digest that bad food items. In recent times, Myanmar government is compelling the innocent Rohingya Muslims to flee into Bangladeshi territory by carrying unprecedented tortures, repressions, mass killings, rape and arson against them. The people of Bangladesh have become surprised, ashamed and aggrieved as amidst such painful circumstance, Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam and his wife have gone to Myanmar for procuring food. It is a travesty with the blood and sacrifice of the innocent Rohingya communities. The food minister has humiliated the image of Bangladesh in the global arena with this trip. His trip would encourage the killers of Myanmar more and simultaneously this incident once again proved the submissive foreign policy of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh could have chosen any other country like Thailand, Cambodia or Vietnam for procuring these foods. But choosing Myanmar, food minister has made the entire nation shameful.

I hope that the government would retreat from such step with good conscience and subsequently cancel the decision of procuring foods from Myanmar by bringing the food minister back to the country.”
