Brahmanbaria district Jamaat Ameer and 15 others arrested; Mia Ghulam Parwar demands immediate release

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the parliament Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar has issued the following statement on 9th September, 2017 protesting the unjustifiable arrest of 16 members and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including party’s Brahmanbaria district Ameer Syed Ghulam Sarwar and Comilla North organizational district’s former Ameer Md. Abdul Awal.

“Police has unreasonably arrested 16 members and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including party’s Brahmanbaria district Ameer Syed Ghulam Sarwar and Comilla North organizational district’s former Ameer Md. Abdul Awal. They have become the victim of government’s political vengeance.

The authoritarian government is arresting the innocent Jamaat members and activists and causing their sufferings just to strengthen their autocratic rule. The government is harassing these opposition activists by suing them with false cases and oppressing them by all means. Government’s popularity came down to zero level because of their misrule. Now they are plotting conspiracy to stay in power forcefully as they have lost the public support. But no authority can stay in office by hatching such conspiracies.

I am urging the authorities concerned to stop torture and repression and to release all the detained members and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including party’s Brahmanbaria district Ameer Syed Ghulam Sarwar immediately.”
