Jamaat organized pre-scheduled Iftar program forcefully cancelled

Secretary General condemns invisible authority’s unjustifiable interference

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 7th June, 2017 expressing reaction as the Jamaat sponsored Iftar Program has been stopped as per the instructions of the invisible authority.

“Under the tenure of the incumbent authoritarian regime, the fundamental and religious rights of the people have been completely subdued.

Since its inception in 1979, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has been organizing Iftar programs in honour of the distinguished politicians and professionals of the country and as well as for the diplomats and ambassadors of different countries, working in Bangladesh. Similarly in 2016, we have arranged two separate Iftar programs honouring the distinguished politicians, professionals and for the diplomats. But due to the unjust and unexpected interference of this tyrannical government, we could not organize those two programs.

In this year, we have also booked an auditorium to hold the Iftar programs in honour of the respected politicians and different other professionals of the country. But regrettably without any justified reason, the auditorium authority suddenly expressed their incapability to let us continue the program. So as we are not able to hold this iftar program any more. The distinguished politicians and professionals who had received our invitation already, we are expressing our deep sorrow for the inconvenience.

This incident once again substantiated that the fundamental and religious rights of the people have been subdued under this regime. We are calling upon the countrymen to take part in the effort for restoring the human rights, particularly the basic, fundamental and religious rights of the people.
