28 Jamaat men including a district Ameer arrested; Acting Ameer condemns

-Professor Mujibur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 14th November 2023 protesting and condemning unjustified arrests of 28 Jamaat leaders and activists including Jessore east organizational district Ameer Master Nurunnabi.

“Plain-clothed DB police arrested Jessore east organizational district Ameer Master Nurunnabi this noon from his working place Badshah Faisal Islami Institute. Although, he was in bail in that case. Two stents are also already inserted in his heart. Police also arrested Sabit, son of Jamaat’s Narsingdi district’s Shibpur Upazila Jamaat’s working committee member Abdul Momen. Earlier, the law enforcers arrested Abdul Momen after breaking the door, windows and shutter gate of his house. Police also arrested 28 Jamaat leaders and activists from various places of the country in last 24 hours. By continuing such arrest drives, the justified movement of the people in previous occasions could not be foiled and it will not be foiled as well. I am condemning all incidents of tortures and arrest drives.

In various dailies including Daily Samakal on 14th November, 2023, reports have been published which implicated Jamaat-e-Islami for the murder incidents of Sundarganj Upazila’s Sonarai union Jubo League leader Zahidul Islam. Jamaat has no nexus with the incident. I am protesting and gainsaying this concocted news.

He stated that, the incumbent autocratic government is not ready to accept or tolerate the criticism of the opponent quarters. People are spontaneously taking part in the movement for restoring democracy and fundamental rights. But the government has become reckless as they are in fear of losing power. The government has given free license to commit all types of corruption and looting but not allowing the people to speak out in those regards. A reign of terror has been launched nationwide. The whole nation has been turned into a giant prison. People of the country have become the victims of torture and repression. The tyrants must be cautious about the curse of the oppressed community. No one had been spared after such repression in the past and the present government will not remain free from the horrible consequences as well.

I am urging the government to stop torture and suppression at once and to release all detained Jamaat leaders and activists including Master Nurunnabi immediately.
