Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 3rd November, 2023 protesting and condemning the unlawful arrests of BNP’s standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, joint secretary general Muzibur Rahman Sarwar, convener of BNPs’ media cell Zahir Uddin Shopon, Jamaat’s central Majlish-e-Shura member Professor Forhad Hossain, Kushtia city Jamaat Ameer Raziuddin Ahmad, Kushtia city Jamaat’s Assistant secretary Professor Younus Ali and Thakurgaon district Sramik Kollan Federation’s secretary Badiul Alam.
“As a part of the government’s plot to foil the ongoing movement, the government has arrested BNP’s standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, joint secretary general Muzibur Rahman Sarwar, convener of BNPs’ media cell Zahir Uddin Shopon, Jamaat’s central Majlish-e-Shura member Professor Forhad Hossain, Kushtia city Jamaat Ameer Raziuddin Ahmad, Kushtia city Jamaat’s Assistant secretary Professor Younus Ali and Thakurgaon district Sramik Kollan Federation’s secretary Badiul Alam unlawfully. People are taking part in the ongoing movement spontaneously. They become reckless in all aspects. Police arrested over 100 Jamaat and Chhatrashibir activists in last 24 hours. Justified movement could never be resisted in the past and it will not be possible in future as well. I am condemning all these arrest incidents.
He said, the tyrant government is not ready to accept the dissident views. The government has given open license for committing corruption and looting. But the people are not allowed to raise voices in this regard. A reign of terror has been created throughout the country. The government has lost the public support and resultantly they are arresting Jamaat and other opposition activists relentlessly to stay in office. The whole nation has been transformed into a big prison. The countrymen are leading deplorable lives. A nation can not sustain in this way.
I am urging the government to stop torture and repression and to release all detained Jamaat and Chhatrashibir leaders and activists including Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman immediately. Besides, I am calling upon the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and the fellow countrymen to make the upcoming blockade program successful.
