Acting Ameer protests the arrest of senior BNP and Jamaat leaders; demands immediate release

-Professor Mujibur Rahman

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 1st November 2023 protesting and condemning the unlawful arrests of the BNP’s standing committee member Mirza Abbas, joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and Meherpur district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Tajuddin Khan.

The government has been arresting BNP and Jamaat’s top leaders and thousands of leaders and activists in order to foil the ongoing movement. As an ill-effort to subdue the ongoing movement, they have unlawfully arrested BNP’s standing committee member Mirza Abbas, joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and Meherpur district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Tajuddin Khan. We are condemning these arrest incidents.

He further said, the countrymen think that the government is mulling to hold another one-party farcical election by oppressing the opposition forces and they are conducting nationwide arrest drive accordingly. This power-greedy people have become afraid of the massive movement. The subservient police forces are murdering people indiscriminately. But they will not be able to subdue the movement by the means of oppression and torture.

I am urging the government to release all the detained leaders and activists of the opposition parties including BNP’s standing committee member Mirza Abbas, joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and Meherpur district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Tajuddin Khan immediately.
