Acting Ameer commemorates the martyrs of 28th October; urges to hold discussion and prayer program and grand rally on 28th October

-Professor Mujibur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 26th October 2023 urging to arrange discussion and prayer program to commemorate the martyrs who had been killed brutally by the attack and assaults of Awami hooligans along with their sticks and locally made other lethal weapons on 28 October of 2006 across the country.

In 2006, at the last end of the 4-party alliance government’s tenure, Awami League led grand alliance created an intentional mayhem and anarchy of attacks and vandalism nationwide. Jamaat-e-Islami organized a rally on the same day in the North gate premise of Baitul Mukarram. Stage construction had begun since the morning. But all on a sudden, the thugs and hooligans of grand alliance started attacking the Jamaat activists and the general masses with sticks, hockey sticks, rods, pistols and locally made lethal weapons. As the Jamaat leaders started addressing the gathering, the Awami goons opened fires and marched towards the stage. The then Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami was present there as the chief guest. But the terrorists moved ahead to kill him along with other Jamaat leaders.

From morning till evening of that day, the entire Paltan and the surrounding area had turned into a battle field. 6 Jamaat leaders and activists became martyred in such sudden attack of the Awami goons and thousand others got injured. Not only in the capital Dhaka, the grand alliance goons spread that anarchy and turmoil nationwide. They killed the people and started dancing over the dead bodies. The people from all around the world witnessed those brutalities through print and electronic media.

The tragic and brutal massacres of 28 October will be regarded as a stigmatized chapter of political history of Bangladesh. This incident paved the way for terrorism-based politics which is still going on. The process of depoliticization also started since that incident. As a part of this process, democracy, rule of law, human rights, justice, freedom of speech and people’s voting rights have been snatched away. Right now, the nation is experiencing the pain of a fascist rule.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has declared grand rally at Shapla Chattar of the capital on 28th October in order to bring the collapse of the fascist government and to release all the political detainees. I am calling upon the countrymen to come to the street for making this program successful in a bid to oust the fascist government.

Jamaat had filed a case immediate after the incident to ensure the punishment of the killers of 28th October. But the incumbent government withdrew the case and closed the door for trying the killers. We firmly believe that, the peace-loving people will make all initiative to try and prosecute the killers. The people will reject the terrorists and Awami goons. Through the path of mass resistance, people will get free from the clutches of murder, anarchy and violence. The people will get back their voting rights as well.

I am urging the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and the countrymen to arrange discussion and prayer program to commemorate the martyrs who had been killed brutally in 2006. May Allah accept their sacrifice. May Allah accept all of them as martyrs. I am also extending sympathy to those families who are still leading deplorable and painful lives as physically injured.
