Muhaddith Abdul Khaleq arrested; Acting Ameer condemns; demands immediate release

-Professor Mujibur Rahman

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 18th August 2023 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of Jamaat’s central organizing secretary and Khulna region’s coordinator Muhaddith Abdul Khaleq.

Police has arrested Jamaat’s central organizing secretary and Khulna region’s coordinator Muhaddith Abdul Khaleq from his native residence’s Dholbari mosque located in Sadar Upazila of Satkhira district. In recent times, funeral in absentia of Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee have been obstructed in various places of the country. Hundreds of leaders and activists have been arrested as well. False cases have been issued against thousands of leaders and activists. I am protesting the unjustifiable arrest of Muhaddith Abdul Khaleq and other inhuman activities of the incumbent tyrant government.

The government has been repressing and torturing the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami for last 15 years in order to attain their ill political interest. Muhaddith Abdul Khaleq’s detention is a part of the same conspiracy. But no government could stay in power by oppressing the opposition leaders and activists and this government will not be able to stay in office as well.

I am urging the concerned authorities to stop torture, arrest drives and repression at once and to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir immediately.”
