A meeting of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s central working committee was held with party’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman in the chair. The meeting discussed latest political situation and adopted the following proposals condemning the police denial to hold programs and rallies and ongoing attack incidents:
The central working committee of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has been observing with deep concern that there is just 5 months to hold next national election. The whole nation is united to press the demand of restoring caretaker government system in order to hold a free, fair and credible election. But instead of fulfilling mass demand, the government is mulling to hold another farcical election like 2014 and 2018. The government is reshuffling the administration accordingly. Several ministers and MPs are also reiterating to hold another controversial election. They stated that, if we can assure a fair election then there no need to be a participatory poll. Actually, they are giving hints at holding another one party oriented farcical election. But the people will not allow them to make it happened again.
Jamaat-e-Islami is a legitimate political party and it had representation almost in all the previous parliament. The party has a golden history in previous democratic movements. But the present government is not allowing Jamaat to hold rallies and processions. They are not cooperating despite Jamaat’s repeated plea seeking their assistance. Rather, Jamaat leaders and activists are being harassed and arrested. Police arrested 8 pious ladies from a Quran class from Mujibnagar thana of Meherpur district. Police arrested the house of Chuadanga district Ameer and Upazila level Jamaat leaders and vandalized their houses. Police also arrested 7 leaders and activists without any reason. Central working committee condemns all these repressive activities and urged the authority to release 8 pious ladies immediately.
Central working committee opine that Jamaat is a systematic and democratic party. The party believes in peace and last 10th June’s peaceful rally in Dhaka has proved the fact once again. Jamaat will successfully implement processions in cities on 28th July, in districts on 30th July and rally in Dhaka on 1st August with the assistance of the administration.
Central working committee urges the law enforcers to act for the state instead of favoring any particular party. Jamaat also seeks the assistance of the countrymen to implement the pre-declared programs. Finally, Central working committee of Jamaat-e-Islami is calling upon the government to restore caretaker government system in order to hold a free, fair, participatory and credible election.
