Dengue situation is out of control; Central Executive Committee criticizes government for its failure

-Professor Mujibur Rahman

A meeting of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s central executive committee held with party’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman in the chair. The meeting adopted the following proposals expressing deep concern over the increasing number of dengue patients and mortality date due to the disease and simultaneously for the failure of the government in tackling the situation:

The number of dengue fever patients and subsequent mortality rates have increased alarmingly. The people are extremely worried about the situation. Already dengue disease has spread over 60 districts. One third of these patients are kids. On an average, 6 people are died of dengue every day. Hospitals cannot provide bed facilities to all patients as such many of them are being compelled to take treatment living on the floor. Such a situation is very pathetic and tragic.

In last 24 hours, 1246 people have been admitted in various hospitals as they are suffering from dengue fever. Of them 709 are from Dhaka and 537 from other districts. In last 6 months, 88 people died of dengue and at the same time, 16,143 people were admitted in the hospitals. Just in last 12 days, 8156 people have admitted in hospitals and 41 of them died already. The situation is really terrible.

Central Executive Committee is of the view that the government has totally failed to tackle the dengue situation. The authority did not take any crush program to destroy the aedes mosquitoes and its sperm. Resultantly, the disease turned into a epidemic form. Government’s failure caused huge suffering for the people.

Central Executive Committee is urging the government to operate special cleaning drive in order to destroy the aedes mosquitoes and its sperm and also to ensure cleanliness of the city. The Executive Committee also calls upon to ensure quality treatment of the patients at free of cost.
