Public sentiment is totally against Awami League; so, they are afraid of holding election under caretaker government

-Professor Mujibur Rahman

No fair election was held under the current regime of Awami League. Awami League government has seized the voting rights and freedom of speech away. People have no trust upon this government. Public sentiment is totally against the ruling Awami League. So, they are afraid of holding election under a caretaker government. Awami League has clearly understood that if election takes place freely and fairly, they do not have any chance to come to the office. From such assumption, Awami League is heading towards holding another farcical and voter less election.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman has said this while virtually addressing a daylong workshop with the Upazila Ameer and Secretary of Bogra region. Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General and regional coordinator Maulana Abdul Halim presided over the meeting which was co-hosted by regional team members Maulana Abdul Haq and Professor Nazrul Islam.

Acting Ameer further said, we need caretaker government to secure the voting rights of the people. Massive movement should be launched against the incumbent tyrannical government. A fair and participatory election to be held under a caretaker government in order to restore democracy. Bangladesh is experiencing a repressor regime now.

People are exhausted due to continuous suppression of the government. It is the biggest Jihad to say the truth against the tyrant regime. The people have to be rescued from this critical condition. To do so, Jamaat leaders and activists have to offer the highest sacrifice.

Addressing the program as the special guest, Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said, Awami League had arranged a farcical election for the maiden time in 1973. Prior to form Bakshal, DUCSU election was held where the precedence of rigging took place. Following the collapse of the Ershad government, first election under caretaker government was held in 1991. Later, the caretaker government system was included in the constitution following a massive movement. Awami League government finally annulled the caretaker government system in 2011 intentionally. But the countrymen cannot imagine another election under the Hasina led regime. To avoid such situation, a severe movement is must. The government must be made compelled to restore the caretaker government system again.

Addressing the program, Jamaat’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum said, Islam should be followed comprehensively. Prophet Muhammad (pbuH) and the caliphs maintained their state as per the rules and regulations of the holy Quran. The Caliphate finally came to an end after the collapse of the Ottoman Caliphate in 1924. Later, Muslim Brotherhood was established in 1928 and Jamaat-e-Islami in 1941. Subsequently, the movement for re-launching caliphate was initiated. The present Jamaat-e-Islami is the continuation of the same movement. In the holy Quran, this effort is called Jihad fi Sabilillah. At present, the Muslims are suffering as they give up this Islamic movement.

Our basic task is to unify the people and to create a public opinion in favor of the movement for establishing Deen Islam.

Maulana Abdul Halim said, under the current context, the Upazila level leaders have to lead the organization with maturity, prudence and rational approach. Besides, central directives have to be followed and implemented as well. Among others, Jamaat’s central executive committee member Principal Mohammad Shahabuddin, central Majlish-e-Shura member and regional team member Maulana Abdur Rahim and concerned district Ameers addressed the program.
