Police arrests leaders and activists from Jessore; Acting Ameer protests

-Professor Mujibur Rahman

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 7th July 2023 protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of Jessore Sadar South organizational thana Ameer Professor Ashraf Ali and 4 others.

The incident of burning the holy Quran in Sweden has hurt the religious sentiment of the Muslims around the globe. Jamaat-e-Islami has declared nationwide peaceful demonstration on 7th July protesting the incident. To refrain the participation of the people in this program, Jessore police administration has arrested 5 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami. They are: Jessore Sadar South organizational thana Ameer Professor Ashraf Ali, Professor Ashraful Alim Soltu, Professor Towhidul Islam Bappi, Emran Hossain and Maulana Mizanur Rahman. This demonstration program has not been called against the government of Bangladesh. By arresting the Jamaat leaders and activists, the police have taken their position against the holy Quran. I am severely condemning this arrest drive.

I am urging the countrymen to take stance against the incumbent tyrannical regime. Besides, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop repression and to release all detained leaders and activists including these 5 leaders and activists of Jessore district Jamaat-e-Islami.
