Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 24th June 2023 demanding the release of party’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and all other detained leaders and activists before Eid-ul-Azha.
We have been observing with great concern that the government has kept Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman for 7 months, party’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and renowned Islamic scholar Alllama Delwar Hossain Sayedee for 13 years, party’s Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam for 12 years and former MP Maulana Abdul Khaleq Mondol for 8 years behind the bar. Besides, Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer, and former MP Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam, Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, Dhaka north city Ameer and party’s central executive committee member Muhammad Selim Uddin are also imprisoned in connection with some false and concocted cases for many days.
The families and relatives of the detained leaders are passing days in deep worries and tensions. Their Eid will be very tragic and painful if the leaders remain behind the bar during the upcoming Eid. So, the government should release all the leaders in order to let them observe the holy occasion of Eid-ul-Azha with the families.
Former Jamaat Ameer Professor Ghulam Azam’s son and former Brigadier General Abdullahil Aman Al Azmi and Jamaat’s former executive committee member Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali’s son and Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem had been abducted from their houses since August of 2016 and since then, they are missing. They were picked up by some people, who claimed themselves as law enforcers. But for last 7 years, these families have not received any information about their whereabouts. They are eagerly waiting for the safe return of their missing family member. We are urging to give them back so that they can celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha with their families.
Finally, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to release Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and all the detained leaders and activists prior to Eid-ul-Azha so that they can celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with their families.
