A session of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s central Majlish-e-Shura was held with the party’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman in the chair. Central Majlish-e-Shura reviewed the latest political situation of the country and the adopted following proposals to press the demand of releasing all detained leaders and activists including Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shaifqur Rahman:
Central Majlish-e-Shura has been observing with great concern that during the 15-year tenure of the incumbent authoritarian government, the authority is plotting various conspiracies to eliminate Jamaat-e-Islami. Following the execution of the party’s top leaders, they have kept the existing leadership behind the year for years.
Central Majlish-e-Shura came up with the observation that Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was arrested from his house on last 12th December. They also kept party’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam, Secretary General, and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, and central Majlish-e-Shura member and former MP Shahjahan Chowdhury detained for more than two years. They have been re-arrested from the jail gate repeatedly after securing bail from all cases. So far, Maulana Shamsul Islam has been re-arrested or shown arrested two times, Mia Golam Porwar 4 times, and Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan two times.
Central Majlish-e-Shura became shocked that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar has been re-arrested for 4 times after securing bail from the High Court. He was lastly shown arrested on 16th April. He got bail on 29th May. Thus he got bail in all cases. His bail bond was submitted accordingly on 13th June. As no more case was against him, he was supposed to be released. The prison authority was also directed by the high court on 17th May 2022 to release him without any further harassment immediately after receiving the bail bond. So, any step of re-arresting him or showing him arrested will be tantamount to contempt of court.
Moreover, on 13th June, DMP’s Polton Model police station appealed to the court to show him arrested in 28 number cases dated on 25th April 2021. Although, he was not shown arrested in this case. Whether he will be shown arrested or not, will be decided through a hearing scheduled to be held on 19th June. As he has no case against him, so there is no barrier to his release. Keeping him imprisoned will be unlawful and a violation of the order of the High Court.
Under the circumstances, central Majlish-e-Shura urged the concerned authorities to stop torture and harassment at once and to release Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, party’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam, Secretary General, and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, central executive committee member and Dhaka north city Ameer Muhammad Selim Uddin and central Majlish-e-Shura member and former MP Shahjahan Chowdhury immediately.
