Acting Ameer demands release of Jamaat Ameer and all party leaders and activists ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr

-Professor Mujibur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 17th April 2023 demanding immediate release of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, other central leaders and all other detained leaders and activists ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has been kept detained for around 5 months. Party’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and noted religious scholar Maulana Delwar Hossain Sayedee is detained for almost 12 years, while party's Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam is detained for 12 years and former MP Principal Maulana Abdul Khaleque Mondol is also detained for 8 years. Besides, the government has kept Jamaat's Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam, Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar, and Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam khan and many others behind the bar for many years. The law enforcers also arrested Jamaat's central executive committee member and Dhaka North city Ameer Mohammad Selim Uddin from a discussion program on Zakah in this holy month of Ramadan.

Jamaat’s former Ameer Professor Ghulam Azam’s son, retired Brigadier General Abdullahil Aman Al Azmi, and Jamaat’s former central executive committee member Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali’s son and Supreme Court Lawyer Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem have been missing since August of 2016. The law enforcers detained them from their houses. But still, their families have no idea about their whereabouts. These families have been passing days amid tensions and worries for the last 6 years. We are urging the concerned authorities to bring them back before Eid so that they can celebrate this holy occasion along with their families.

Finally, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to immediately release all party leaders and activists including Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and allow them to observe the occasions of Eid-ul Fitr with the families and relatives.
