-Professor Mujibur Rahman

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 4th April 2023 expressing deep sympathy over the massive fire incident which took place in Bangabazar shopping market of the capital.

The fire started at around 6 in the morning today. The severity of the fire was so high that the surrounding areas became full of black smoke. The fire of the Bangabazar also spread to some adjacent buildings as well. This is one of the worst-ever fire incidents in the history of Bangladesh. Centering the ensuing occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the traders and businessmen stored clothes and dresses of crores of taka. Around 6 thousand businessmen have lost thousands of crore taka today. Losing everything, they became totally penniless. The cries and sighs of the shoppers and traders have made the entire place tragic and melancholy. Several fighters became critically injured while dousing the fire and they are undergoing treatment in the hospitals. I am deeply saddened and mournful over this accident.

The businessmen have lost immensely due to this fire and such loss will never be fulfilled easily. I am praying to Almighty Allah so that they can recover the losses shortly. I am also praying for the quick recovery of the injured. Besides, I am urging the concerned authorities to pay due compensation to the victims and also to form a probe committee to investigate the incident.
