Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 21st March 2023 urging to preserve the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan and also to build the individual, society, and the state on the basis of Taqwa (fear of Allah).
The holy month of Ramadan is knocking at our door with the sermon of blessing, forgiveness, and safety from hellfire. A sacred night namely ‘Lailatul Qadr’ exists during the last 10 days of Ramadan which is better than a thousand of months. By doing an obligatory task this month, an individual can attain a reward 70 times more than in other months.
While the reward of an obligatory task can be attained if an additional (Nafl) task is performed. This month is a time of demonstrating Taqwa, tolerance, and sympathy to one another.
We have been observing that police is conducting arrest drive in various meetings and programs arranged on the eve of Ramadan. Recently, police arrested 58 Muslim devotees from a discussion program on Ramadan and Zakat from Mirpur of the capital. People with dissident views are being arrested and harassed frequently. The countrymen are suffering terribly due to the price hike of the essentials. People are not getting food even after standing in a queue in front of a TCB truck since dawn. The low-income people’s suffering knows no bounds. I am urging the affluent sections of society to take a stand by the side of these helpless people.
Ramadan is the month when the holy Quran was revealed. The Quran is the greatest blessing to humanity. The rights of the Ramadan month can be ensured if we can know the Quran through sound reading and simultaneously by building our personal, family, and national life as per the teachings of the Quran. Almighty Allah made fasting obligatory in this month to prepare our minds to attain guidance from the Quran. I am urging all to make a sincere effort for securing that goal by observing fasting with due dignity and fervor.
It is the duty of the government to preserve sanctity, price hike of the essentials, indecency, and nudity in this holy month. We are urging them to take strong steps to stop all these malpractices.
