Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman issued a statement today, 7 December extending heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the newly elected president of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), Md. Shahidul Islam, and the general secretary Khursheed Alam, along with the entire committee,

“I extend my sincere congratulations and best wishes to the newly elected president of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), Md. Shahidul Islam, and the general secretary Khursheed Alam, along with the entire committee. Your re-election by the unanimous consents of the members reflects the confidence, reputation, and capable leadership of the journalist community.”

He further said, “The media is one of the vital pillars of any democratic society. The role of journalists in promoting the welfare of the nation, establishing truth, and building a just society is extremely important. I hope the newly elected DUJ leadership will take a stronger role in safeguarding media independence, enhancing professional dignity, and ensuring the rightful rights of journalists.”

He added, “My heartfelt prayers and best wishes are with all members of Dhaka Union of Journalists, the newly elected leaders, and the attending journalists. May Allah keep you steadfast on the path of truth and justice and grant you success in fulfilling your responsibilities. Ameen.”
