Jamaat Ameer expresses deep concern over the killing of 2 Bangladeshis in BSF firing on Indian border; demands for international investigation into the killings

Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman issued a statement on July 25 expressing deep concern over the unjust killing of two Bangladeshis at the frontiers and demanding a fair investigation under the United Nations.

In the statement, he said, on the midnight of July 24, the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot dead two Bangladeshi youths named Millat Hossain (20) and Liton (32) at the Parshuram border in Feni. Another youth named Afsar (30) was seriously injured in this incident. We express deep concern over this killing by the BSF and condemn and protest these murders.

He also said, we are observing with deep concern that the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) often commits unprovoked killings on the Bangladesh border. Despite repeated promises by India to bring the killings on the India-Bangladesh border to zero, the incident of killings are continuously increasing. According to a report by Odhikar, a human rights organization working on border killings, the BSF killed a total of 588 Bangladeshi citizens from 2009 to November 2024. Another 773 Bangladeshi citizens were injured during this period. No investigation and trial has been completed for these killings and incidents to date. It is very worrying that the unjust killings of Bangladeshis on the India-Bangladesh border are not being prosecuted. India has repeatedly committed and is still committing killings on the Bangladesh border because of the subservient and weak foreign policy of the fallen fascist Awami League government. The policy of appeasing India of the fallen Awami League is responsible for these killing incidents.

He said that the people of Bangladesh always desire friendly and respectful behavior from their neighbors. "We hope that the Indian government will stop the unnecessary killings on the India-Bangladesh border and conduct a fair and impartial investigation into the killings of two Bangladeshi youths, Millat Hossain and Liton, and take legal action against the killers. At the same time, we demand an international investigation and trial under the United Nations for all the killings of Bangladeshis on the India-Bangladesh border. I urge the Bangladesh government to take necessary steps in this regard."
