Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, issued a statement on 10 September extending his heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to the winners of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections, as well as to all those involved in the electoral process.
In the statement, he said, “On 9 September, the election of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union was held. The students of Dhaka University participated in the election peacefully in a festive environment. The contesting candidates participated in the polls and made the election competitive. I extend my sincere thanks to all those who have been elected in this election. I hope they will rise above their partisan identity and discharge their responsibilities as representatives of the student community.”
He further said, “At this critical juncture of the nation, I extend my sincere congratulations to the incumbent interim government, the university authorities, law enforcement agencies, journalists, and all those concerned with the election for conducting it in a fair, neutral, credible, and peaceful manner. At the same time, I pray seeking salvation and forgiveness for the soul of Channel S journalist Tariqul Islam Shibli, who passed away while performing his duties during the DUCSU election, and I express my sympathy to his family and relatives.
