Courtesy meeting and exchange of views held between Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and Ms. Huma Khan, Human Rights Adviser to the UN Resident Representative

On Monday, 8 September, at 11:00 a.m., Ms. Huma Khan, Human Rights Adviser to the United Nations Resident Representative in Bangladesh, met with the Honorable Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman at his office in Bashundhara, Dhaka, in a courtesy meeting and exchange of views session. Accompanying Ms. Huma Khan was Barrister Tajrian Akram Khan, Junior Human Rights Adviser to the UN Resident Representative.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ms. Huma Khan inquired about the health condition of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and wished him a full recovery.

During the meeting, they engaged in a cordial exchange of views. Ms. Huma Khan expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Jamaat Ameer for the historic speech he had delivered at the “July Memorial Meeting” organized on 29 July by the UN Human Rights Agency at Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka. They held an open discussion on the prevailing human rights situation in Bangladesh, including the issue of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings, as well as broader matters. She also sought clarification regarding various aspects of the reform proposals presented by Jamaat-e-Islami, and the Jamaat Ameer elaborated on those proposals.

It may be noted that Jamaat Ameer presented them with the 12-volume English edition of Jamaat-e-Islami’s publication on the “July Martyrs.”

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher; Assistant Secretary General and party's Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair; and Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, among others were present during the meeting.
