Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Taher’s house came under attack; Acting Ameer condemns; demands punishment of the offenders

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 6th May 2023 protesting and condemning the attack and vandalism on the native house of Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, located in Chauddagram Upazila of Comilla district.

The incumbent un-elected and illegitimate government has destroyed all basic rights of people. Civic rights, constitutional rights, or voting rights- nothing exists in Bangladesh now. Being reckless and desperate, the government is using its hooligans to attack the houses of the Jamaat leaders. Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has become the latest victim of such mayhem. At 9 pm on 5th May, a group of terrorists attacked the house of this popular leader. The goons vandalized the valuable furniture and caused damage to some sensitive items. We are vehemently condemning such terror activities of the government.

We want to remind the government saying that the people and the public voice can never be subdued through terrorism and anarchy. By attacking the house of Dr. Taher, the government once again proved that they do not have a minimum respect for the constitution, democracy, human rights, and existing law. With this provocative incident, the government wants to create an unstable situation. They also want to overcome the upcoming electoral phase by continuing crackdown against the opposition leaders and activists. But the countrymen will not them allow to implement such a heinous conspiracy.

Jamaat-e-Islami has the capacity to make a response to this attack. But we are respectful towards the law and do believe in a peaceful environment. But if the situation gets deteriorated due to the instigation of the government, then they have to take the liability.

We are urging the countrymen to raise their voices against the incumbent tyrannical government. Besides, we are urging the concerned authorities to bring all the persons to the book who were involved with these criminal activities.
