Jamaat Ameer placed on another 3 day remand; Acting Ameer condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Acting Ameer and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 21st December 2022 protesting and condemning the recent move as Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has placed once again on a 3 day remand in a false and ill-motivated case.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was arrested from his house on 12th December. On the following day, an intentional campaign was started terming him militant. He was shown arrested in a case under anti-terrorism act. The law enforcers appealed to take him in a 10-day remand but the court granted a 7-day remand against him. In connection with the same case, again a 8-day remand plea was placed against him today. The court granted him another 3-day remand. As such, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has been deprived from getting justice in the case which has been intentionally lodged by the government.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has been in police custody since last 12th December. Firstly, he had been placed on a 7 day remand and today he was taken into 3 day remand. Thus, he has been put under severe mental pressure. He needs rest badly but he was not given that chance. He became the victim of government's vengeance just because of his anti-government movement programs declaration. We are vehemently condemning government's repression against him and urging the concerned authorities to cancel the remand and also to release him immediately.
