Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 1st June 2022 protesting and condemning the incident of showing Jamaat’s Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar arrested for consecutive third times even after the High Court granted bail in all cases.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former member of parliament Professor Mia Golam Porwar was arrested on 6th September of 2021. He was shown arrested in a political case and subsequently sent to jail. Later, he was granted bail and he was shown arrested in two other cases in order to prolong his imprisonment. He secured bail in those two cases and the authority denied his release and showed him arrested in 3 new cases.
Even after the court’s order, he was not released and was continuously shown arrested in multiple cases which is a clear violation of law, constitution, and human rights. Through such initiatives, the government unwantedly interfered with the rights of Professor Mia Golam Porwar. We are vehemently condemning the incidents.
Already various international human rights organizations and institutions have expressed their concern as human rights, freedom of speech and democratic rights are being subdued in Bangladesh. However, the government is paying no heed to their approach. Their fascist behaviors are being increased day by day. The government is taking the nation towards a critical condition.
We are urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Professor Mia Golam Porwar immediately.
