Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 28th December, 2017 protesting and condemning the second time re-arrest of Jamaat-e-Islami’s central working committee member and Rangpur city Jamaat Ameer Mahbubur Rahman Belal from the jail gate on last 26th December evening.
“Central working committee member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Rangpur city Jamaat Ameer Mahbubur Rahman Belal has been re-arrested for second time on last 26th December from the jail gate though he had secured bail from all the cases. Such incident of re-arrest is completely unlawful and inhuman.
The government arrested Mr. Mahbubur Rahman Belal in connection with a false case on last 23rd August. Later he fought the cases legally and secured bail from the High Court. Despite this reality, the government has re-arrested him for first time on 24th November and 26th December for the second time. Such move of the authority proved that the government is repeatedly re-arresting him from the jail gate just to harass him politically. The government has shown disrespect towards the law and the judiciary by not freeing him on bail. This incident of re-arrest once again proved that the incumbent government does not believe in rule of law.
I am urging the concerned authorities to show respect towards the law and the judicial system and to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including party’s central working committee member and Rangpur city Ameer Mahbubur Rahman Belal immediately.
