Government’s effort of holding another farcical election would deepen existing political crisis

Acting Ameer denounces the indecent comment of the Prime Minister

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 10th December, 2017 denouncing the egoistic and indecent comment of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina which she has made in a press conference at her official residence of Gana Bhaban on last 7th December saying that ‘BNP would contest the next election by giving an undertaking.’

“Such an indecent comment can never be the language of democracy. The countrymen are highly shocked with the comment of the Prime Minister. The peoples of the country do not expect any such humiliating, undemocratic, indecent and immodest comment from a Prime Minister.

At present, the nation is undergoing through severe political instabilities and uncertainties and the only way to get rid of this situation is a free, fair and participatory election under a neutral government. The incumbent government has the sole responsibility to make the due congenial atmosphere to hold such an acceptable election. But paying no heed to that responsibility, Prime Minister rather has made some indecent and humiliating comment targeting the main opposition parties.

Her provocative comment proved once again that the government has no intention of holding a free, fair and credible election at all. They want to keep the 20 party alliances out of the election process in order to recur the voter less, farcical election as they had conducted on 5th January, 2014. The countrymen would not accept any such ill-effort. Rather government’s endeavor of holding a voter less and farcical election would deepen the existing political crisis.

In this backdrop, I am urging the Prime Minister to be refrained from making any further egoistic, humiliating and indecent comment targeting the opposition parties in a bid to pave the way for holding a free, fair, credible and participatory election under a neutral caretaker government.”
