Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 25th October, 2017 urging all the wings and front organizations of Jamaat-e-Islami to observe 28th October with due solemnity by holding discussions and prayer programs.
“28th October of 2006 is a black day in the history of Bangladeshi politics. We are recalling the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir who had sacrificed their lives on that day. They were mercilessly and brutally murdered by the Awami League led 14 party alliance hooligans.
Jamaat-e-Islami arranged a peaceful meeting at the north gate of national mosque Baitul Mukarram on 28th October of 2006. Awami League led 14 party cadres like wild animals attacked the Jamaat’s procession with sticks, local weapons, rods and firearms. They killed the Jamaat-Shibir activists and danced on the dead bodies barbarously. Jamaat had lodged a case demanding the punishment of the killers but the incumbent oppressor government withdrew the cases on political consideration. By withdrawing the case, Awami government have indulged the killers and openly gave licence to all sorts of crimes including murder, killing and terrorisms. As a result of such naked patronization of crime, different types of crimes against humanity including murder, abductions and rape are increasing alarmingly across the country.
The present government came to the office on the blood of 28th October’s martyrs and since then they have been plotting conspiracy to launch one party rule by destroying the electoral system and simultaneously by snatching people’s voting rights, freedom of expression and judicial independence away. Instead of institutionalizing the democratic system, the government is making plot to destroy the constitutional bodies’ one after one. I am urging my fellow citizens to raise voice against the conspiracies and ill plots of the government.
The valiant martyrs of 28th October dreamt for establishing a just and balanced Islamic welfare state. I am calling upon the fronts and wing organizations of Jamaat-e-Islami to make a vow to materialize their dreams. I am also urging the fellow members and activists to observe the historic 28th October with due significance by holding discussions and prayer programs. I am also seeking the assistance of the countrymen to make the declared programs successful.”
