8 top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami including Dhaka city South Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul arrested; Jamaat Ameer condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 29th September, 2017 vehemently protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of 8 top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka city South unit including party’s Central Executive Committee member and Dhaka city South Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul, central working committee member and Dhaka city South’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Monjurul Islam Bhuiyan, central working committee member and Dhaka city South Secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud and party’s central Majlish-e-Shura member Abdus Sabur Fakir this afternoon.

“Police has unjustifiably and unlawfully arrested 8 top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka city South unit including party’s Central Executive Committee member and Dhaka city South Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul, central working committee member and Dhaka city South’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Monjurul Islam Bhuiyan, central working committee member and Dhaka city South Secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud and party’s central Majlish-e-Shura member Abdus Sabur Fakir in order to harass them politically.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a legitimate and justified political party of the country. But the government is not allowing Jamaat-e-Islami to conduct its organizational activities. The government has unlawfully kept the central offices and all the district level offices of Jamaat-e-Islami closed for years. By creating obstruction in operating Jamaat’s organizational and political activities, the government has seized the constitutional and political rights. Today, on 29th September, Jamaat Dhaka city South Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul and others gathered to consult some organizational issues. But police arrested all of them unduly.

Jamaat leaders have been arrested as a part of the government’s conspiracy to destroy the leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami. The government is arresting leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami across the country just to stay in power forcefully and to subdue the dissident voices. There is no existence of democracy and rule of law in the country now. The government has imposed a severe misrule upon the nation. I am calling upon the fellow citizens of my country to raise voice against the torture, oppressions and misrule of the incumbent authoritarian government.

Finally I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders including Nurul Islam Bulbul immediately.”
