Mia Golam Porwar refutes the intentional comment of ruling Awami League’s General Secretary against Jamaat-e-Islami

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 21st April, 2024 protesting and gainsaying the unlawful, undemocratic and unconstitutional comment of ruling Awami League’s General Secretary and Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader.

“In a press meet, held on 20th April, 2024 at the political office of Awami League President, party’s General Secretary and Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader claimed that Jamaat is not a registered party and as such they have no scope to appear in mainstream politics.

His such comment is totally unlawful, undemocratic and unconstitutional. We are vehemently protesting his comment.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic and democratic political party. Jamaat had taken part in all previous national elections except the farcical ones and Jamaat had representation in the parliament as well. Earlier, a significant number of Jamaat nominated candidates had secured victories in the local government election. But as the incumbent government is afraid of the growing popularity of Jamaat-e-Islami, so very intentionally, a case has been filed seeking cancellation of Jamaat’s registration under their patronization. Finally, the case was declared `dismissed for default’ in the Appellate Division without holding any proper hearing.

He further stated that, Jamaat had no legal barrier in conducting politics or doing welfare activities. As such, the remarks of the bridge minister are totally unlawful, undemocratic and unconstitutional.

Jamaat-e-Islami has been remaining in the mainstream politics of this country for many years and no one has the right to create bar in this regard. The government is not allowing any opposition to act freely in last 15 years. The countrymen already rejected the remark of Mr. Obaidul Quader. Jamaat is doing politics for the betterment of the people and the countrymen are always with their beloved organization. Mr. Quader’s remark is nothing but an exposure of his political bankruptcy.

I am urging Mr. Obaidul Quader to be refrained from making such unlawful, undemocratic and unconstitutional comment against Jamaat-e-Islami in future.”
