Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 15th November 2023 rejecting the election schedule, which has been declared by the subservient election commission this evening as per the blueprint design of the government and ignoring the mainstream opposition parties and views of the majority.
“Election commission has declared the election schedule this evening defying the people’s movement and their demand to hold next election under a caretaker government. The countrymen do not have any confidence upon the oppressor and tyrannical government. If election takes place under a caretaker regime, the defeat of the ruling party is inevitable. From such understanding, the election commission declared the schedule to pave a way for securing the victory of the ruling party keeping all opposition parties outside the electoral process. The people will not allow to hold such one-sided election this time. The election commission must respect the public opinion and they should withdraw the schedule at once. They have to declare new election schedule after a consensus is made between all parties. Till then, the movement of the people will continue.
We want to warn that, without a political consensus, such declaration of the election schedule will not bring better consequence for the nation. Rather, it will push the nation towards more instability and destruction. It will close the door for holding dialogue. Whatever the situation arises following the one-sided election, the government and its subservient election commission have to take that liability.
