Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Central Publicity and Media Secretary Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda has issued the following statement on 5th March, 2024 protesting and condemning the murder of Bhorer Dak newspaper's journalist and a Barguna district resident Talukdar Masud.

"I am urging the concerned authorities to investigate the murder incident of journalist Talukdar Masud and to bring the murderers to the book.

On last 19th February, several miscreants confined journalist Talukdar Masud in a room of Barguna district press club and brutally assaulted him. Later, police rescued him and admitted in the local hospital. But since then, his physical condition continued to deteriorate. Subsequently he was admitted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where he died today. Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun.

Such a brutal murder incident inside the press club in broad daylight demonstrate the extreme vulnerable law and order situation of the country. At present, public lives and properties are not safe at all. I am calling upon the journalist community to get united seeking justice for their fellow brother Talukdar Masud.

I am praying seeking salvation for the departed soul of journalist Talukdar Masud. I am also extending sympathy to his mournful family and colleagues. May Allah make them enable to remain strong and patient in this painful time.
