-Procession and mass contact on 5th January

-48 hour strike from 6th January 6 am to 8 th January 6 am

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 4th January, 2024 urging to boycott the farcical election and also to remain refrained from casting votes and simultaneously declaring 3 days of programs.

"Awami League has began 2024 with terrorism, anarchy and by declaring verdicts against the political opponents in connection with various false cases. Ahead of the 7th January election, they are threatening and intimidating the voters and harassing the citizens. In last 24 hours, 25 Jamaat and Chhatrashibir leaders and activists have been arrested including Jessore east organisational district Ameer Master Nurunnabi, Panchagarh district's Debiganj Upazila Ameer Abul Bashar Boshunia, and Natore district's Lalpur upazila Ameer Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. I am condemning all these unjust arrest drives and demanding their immediate release. Because of the state-sponsored mayhem of Awami League, a significant number of independent candidates already stepped back from the election. The government has taken all measures to hold this farcical election in order to detach Bangladesh from the democratic world.

The intellectuals, civil society members, and the political parties have repeatedly called upon the government to hold a credible and acceptable election through a caretaker government in order to ensure people’s representation in the government. But Awami League pays no heed to that call. Every citizen has the right to cast votes or to remain refrained from casting votes. But with the help of the administration, Awami League is creating pressures upon the voters to go to the polling centers and to cast their votes. Various media already published news stating that ruling Awami League cadres may create anarchy on election day. In order to boycott government's preplanned farcical election, we are declaring the following programs:

# Procession and mass contact on 5th January
# 48 hour strike from 6th January 6 am to 8 th January 6 am

I am urging the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and the fellow countrymen to make the aforesaid programs successful.
