Declares nationwide 36-hour long blockade on Tuesday and Wednesday

Acting Secretary General protests police’s attack on Jamaat’s human chain

-Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 10th December, 2023 protesting police’s attack on the human chain program organized by Jamaat-e-Islami on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.

Today, 10th December is International Human Rights Day. Marking the day, Jamaat-e-Islami declared nationwide human chain program. Dhaka south city Jamaat arranged a peaceful human chain in Jatrabari of the capital this morning. But following the program, when the Jamaat leaders and activists were about to leave the place, suddenly police attacked them, hurled tear shell and opened fire against the demonstrators. Police also arrest several from the spot. Police also arrested 28 Jamaat activists including three women from Dinajpur, Borguna and Natore. We do not have the words to condemn the violation of human rights by the police day on Human Rights Day. We are condemning their inhuman activities and demanding immediate release of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and other leaders immediately.

Jamaat declares new program

In another statement, Jamaat’s Acting Secretary General stated that, on behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, I am declaring 36 hour long blockade from 12th December, Tuesday 6 am to 13th December, Wednesday 6 pm protesting the perverse judgement in Jamaat’s registration case and also condemning the declaration of a prescribed election schedule by the election commission and simultaneously demanding immediate resignation of the oppressor government, formation of election-time caretaker government, immediate release of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, other leaders and religious scholars, withdrawal of false cases and for bringing prices of the essentials within people’s capacity. I am urging the Jamaat leaders and activists and the fellow countrymen to make the declared program successful.
