Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 7th December, 2023 protesting government’s crackdown and arrest drives and also urging to observe human chain program on next Sunday.
The election commission has declared election schedule ignoring the public view and thus paved the way for a one-sided election. Because of their strategies, apparently there is no bar for Awami League to come back to the power. The major parties of the country decided not to take part in election under the election commission and within the existing schedule. The opposition parties are conducting movement protesting their schedule and also for holding election under the caretaker government. By dismissing the appeal plea of Jamaat-e-Islami in the registration case and by defying the public demands, the fascist government has completed all measures to grab the power. But this time, the countrymen will not let Awami League to fulfil its dream to grabbing power in illegal way.
In order to keep opposition men out of the election, they are convicting opposition leaders and activists in a hurry. Violating all norms, charges are being framed in absence of the accused. Cross examination is being taken place till night. In some occasions, final sentence is being declared without proper hearing. The government is continuing its arrest drives. Jamaat and other opposition party’s leaders and activists are being harassed in connection with false and concocted cases. Under the backing of the government, police administration is making business of crores of taka with such arrest incidents. In last 24 hours, the authority has arrested 15 Jamaat and Chhatrashibir activists from various places of the country including Sylhet city’s Kotowali thana secretary Parvez Ahmad. I am vehemently condemning government's ongoing repression and arrest drives and demanding immediate release of all political detainees. I am also urging the countrymen and the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami to observe peaceful human chain on Sunday.
