Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 6th December, 2023 protesting and condemning government's ongoing repression and arrest drives and simultaneously urging to observe nationwide blockade program.
Almost all the political parties has rejected the election schedule and boycotted the upcoming election. The countrymen are continuing movement protesting the declaration of the election schedule and also for restoring caretaker government system. But the autocratic government has denied all justified demands of the opposition and completed arrangements to prolong its tenure. They have taken preperation to hold one-sided election in a bid to send democracy into exile forever. Like a tyrant authority, the incumbent fascist government has dismissed the registration case of Jamaat-e-Islami.
In order to keep opposition men out of the election, they are convicting opposition leaders and activists in a hurry. Violating all norms, charges are being framed in absence of the accused. Cross examination are being taken place till night. In some occasions, final sentence are being declared without proper hearing. The government has imposed its misrule upon the nation. Torture and repression of the government has exceeded all previous records. History testifies that the collapse of the oppressor is inevitable.
The mandate-less government has become desperate to stay in office. They have kept thousands Jamaat and other opposition party activists behind the bar. In last 48 hours, 16 Jamaat and Chhatrashibir activists have been arrested including Rajshahi district's Godagari municipality's 5 number ward's former councillor Mamunur Rashid Mamun and Kishorganj city Jamaat's working committee member Mustakim Billah. I am vehemently condemning government's ongoing repression and arrest drives and demanding immediate release of all political detainees. I am also urging the countrymen and the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami to make the declared blockade and other programs successful.
