-Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 3rd December, 2023 protesting the ongoing tortures and arrest drives and also urging to observe all predeclared programs.

"The countrymen have observed predeclared programs of Jamaat-e-Islami and other opposition parties and thus expressed their no confidence upon the government. The nation wants to get back their voting rights. They want to cast their votes and to elect the government as per theit choice. But a free, fair and credible election is not possible under the current regime and restoration of caretaker government system is a must. Awami League had no example of holding fair election. Rather, they had a long tradition to oppressing the opposition parties, subduing the opponents, intimidating dissident voices, rigging and forgery in the name of election. Awami League has deceived the people by holding farcical elections in 2014 and 2018. Such a farce is unprecedented in the history of democracy.

He said, the ruling party has become desperate to stay in power. They have used their subservient election commission to declare schedule for holding one-sided election. They also cancelled the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami without a proper hearing in the controversial registration case. Actually, Awami League do not believe in multiparty democracy. They know that they will not be able to secure victory through a fair election. So, they want to arrange election somehow by keeping the opposition parties out of the electoral process. But the people will not allow them to make it happened. To ensure it, all democratic institutions and forces have to work together. We have to declare tougher programs to oust the government. Our blockade and other strict programs will continue till democracy and basic rights are established.

The mandate less government has become very aggressive and they are detaining thousands of opposition activists on regular basis. Police is using excessive forces against the people. The general masses are not allowed to movement freely. Reign of terror has been established nationwide. Opposition leaders and activists cannot stay at home. The authority has arrested Jamaat's central Majlish-e-Shura member and Patuakhali district Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Abdus Salam on 2nd December. After concluding a procession today, police suddenly attacked the demonstrators in Mymensingh and left Mymensingh city Jamaat secretary Professor Shahidullah Kayser, city Jamaat working committee member Abdul Bari and local leader Khandaker Tarikullah and many others Injured. In last 48 hours, police arrested 28 Jamaat leaders and activists including Dinajpur north organizational Sramik Kollan Federation president and district Jamaat's working committee member Zakirul Islam. I am protesting government's ongoing repression and arrest drives and demanding immediate release of all political detainees. I am also urging the Jamaat leaders and activists and the fellow countrymen to observe all declared programs to make the ongoing movement successful.
