Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 27th November 2023 declaring nationwide blockade on 29th November and dawn to dusk strike on 30th November.

Ignoring the views and opinions of the people, the election commission has declared schedule for one-sided election and by this initiative, they have expressed their extreme irresponsibility. By declaring the schedule, the commission has closed all paths to hold a free, fair, credible and participatory election. Bagging some opportunists people, Awami League is trying to create some king's parties in a bid to ensure their participation in this election. This is the exposition of their ill-politics. Besides, just immediate before the election, the authority has dismissed the appeal plea of Jamaat-e-Islami without any hearing and shut the door for attending in election. We are condemning all the barriers and obstacles which have been created by the government for holding an inclusive and fair election.

For holding one-sided election, the government still continuing arrest drives and harassment across the country. Sirajganj district Jamaat secretary Professor Zahidul Islam secured bails in all cases from High court. However, he has been re-arrested from jail gate today while he was about to be released. In last 24 hours, 30 Jamaat leaders and activists have been unjustifiably arrested from various places of the country. I am condemning all the repression and arrest drives and also demanding immediate release of all political detainees.

Just to stay in office, the government has turned the nation into a failed, ineffective and subservient one and as such the independence and sovereignty of the country are under threat. Under the circumstances, on behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, I am declaring nationwide blockade from 29th November Wednesday 6 am to 30th November Thursday 6 am and dawn to dusk strike on 30th November Thursday protesting the perverse judgment in Jamaat-e-Islami's registration case, the declaration of one-sided election schedule, and demanding immediate stepdown of the government, restoration of caretaker government system, demanding immediate release of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and other political detainees, withdrawal of false cases and for bringing the the prices of essentials within people's capacity. I am urging the countrymen and the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami to make the declared programs successful.
