-Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 26th November, 2023 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrests of 29 Jamaat leaders and activists.

"The election commission had earlier stated that they are committed to hold a free, fair and credible election. But they do not mean it. By declaring a prescribed election schedule, they have exposed their irresponsibility and paved the way for the ruling party to come back to the power. Simultaneously some opportunists people are being selected to launch some new parties in order to take part in election. We are vehemently condemning such ill-politics of Awami League.

He claimed, the independence war of the country had taken place with some dreams which are not fulfilled yet. Rather extreme level of disparity and discriminations have been created among the citizens. Political opponents are not allowed to exercise any rights. Majority of people are leading lives like second-class citizens. It is a bad symptom for the nation. The dissident people are being kept under surveillance. They are often being harassed and arrested. Jamaat and other opposition party members cannot stay in home. Their family members are being threatened and intimidated. Many of the institutions and commercial spaces have been closed. The level of torture and repression have exceeded all limits. In last 24 hours, 29 Jamaat leaders and activists including 5 from Dhaka's Hatirjheel east organisational thana have been arrested. I am protesting and condemning all these incidents of torture and oppression and demanding immediate release of all the political detainees.
