Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 25th November 2023 expressing deep concern over the increasing incidents of secret murders, abduction and enforced disappearances and the overall deteriorating law and order situation.
“In recent times, the incidents of secret murders, secret attacks, murder and abduction have increased alarmingly. All on a sudden, the miscreants appeared on the spot and attacked the targeted person and consequently escaped out. In most of the cases, BNP and Jamaat leaders are becoming the victims of such secret attack. The role of the law enforcers in these occasions are questionable. We are expressing deep concern about these horrible incidents.
According to the reports of various dailies, some 20 incidents of secret attacks and murders have taken place in last one month. Two doctors have been brutally killed in Rajshahi. BNP activists were murdered in Bogra and Noagaon. Besides, incidents of secret attacks upon the opposition activists have alarmingly increased in Rajshahi, Natore, Naogaon, Bogra and other places of the country. The offices, houses and establishments of the opposition are being attacked. The law enforcers are making frequent raid into the house of the opposition leaders and activists and arrested them from the spots. In last 24 hours, police arrested 20 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Gazipur city’s Metro middle thana secretary Enamul Haq Sharif, Metro north thana secretary Kazi Mahfuz Ullah and training secretary of the industrial area Md. Jahangir Alam.
The government cannot deny the responsibility of these secret murder and arrest incidents. The countrymen think, these incidents are being taken place intentionally in order to foil the ongoing movement of the opposition. We want to assert that they will never be able to thwart the movement by conducting these murder and secret attack incidents. The fascist government will be dethroned in the wake of the all-out movement of the people.
I am urging the government to take effective measures to bring an end to these secret attack and murder incidents and also to take stern punitive measures against the involved offenders immediately.
