Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 22nd November, 2023 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of 63 Jamaat leaders and activists from various places of the country in last 24 hours.

“Jamaat's anti-government movement is going on protesting the perverse judgment in Jamaat-e-Islami's registration case and declaration of one-sided election schedule and simultaneously demanding immediate stepdown of the government, restoration of caretaker government system, release of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and other political detainees, withdrawal of false cases and for bringing the prices of essentials within people's capacity. Many people have become the victims of repression because of their criticism of the government. Many leaders and activists are being kept imprisoned in connection with false and concocted cases. Police have arrested 63 Jamaat leaders and activists from various places of the country in last 24 hours including Khulna district’s Dumuria south thana Ameer, Aaroshnagar Shah Afzal madrasa’s Super Maulana Mukhtar Hossain, Dhaka south city’s Chockbazar thana Ameer Mahbubur Rahman, Sitakunda municipality Ameer Hafez Ali Akbar, Meherpur municipality secretary Moniruzzaman and 6 others from Pabna district.

He said, the government is making a hurry to convict the opposition activists in connection with some old cases. Among the convicted lists, there are some deceased and abducted personalities as well. The government is arresting the opposition leaders by issuing warrant of arrest against him and torturing them severely in the name of police remand.

Even they are often arresting the family members if they do not find out the targeted persons during the raid. The government is trying to imprison the opposition men in order to foil the ongoing movement. In some cases, the musk wearing miscreants are abducting the opposition men and later left them by the side of the road as critically injured. I am condemning such torture and oppression of the government and demanding immediate release of all political detainees.
