People are still uninformed about the treaties

Secretary General urges government not to sign any anti-national security deal with India

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 10th March, 2017 expressing deep concern about the signing of security and defence agreement between Bangladesh and India during the upcoming state visit of the Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in neighbouring India.

“The countrymen want to the details about the probable security and defence agreements between Bangladesh and India which are going to be signed during the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in India.

We came to know from different news sources that a military and defence pact is going to be signed during this trip. But the countrymen are not aware of it at all. Keeping the people in dark, what kinds of security and defence deals are going to be made, people are really worried about that. The people of the country deserve the right to know the every single detail of these security and defence treaties. Naturally question came into their mind, for whose interest, the government is going to make these agreements?

The government should disclose the issues and facts of these much talked about defence and security treaties to the people so that they can express their views and opinions independently and clearly. The countrymen will not accept any defence and security deals with India if it is made away from their knowledge.

We are pressing to reveal the entire security and defence treaties which are going to be signed with India. Besides, we are urging the concerned authorities not to sign any defence or security agreement which is against the national interest.”
