Jamaat-e-Islami declares peaceful demonstration on Tuesday demanding immediate release of its leaders
Monday, 22nd August, 2016

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 22nd August, 2016 declaring nationwide peaceful demonstration on 23rd August, Tuesday demanding the release of party’s detained leaders and activists including its central Executive Committee Member Mir Quasem Ali, Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Abdus Subhan, Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee, Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam and also with the call to bring Mir Quasem Ali’s younger son Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman back to his family.

“The government already has murdered 4 top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami through unjust execution in line with the so called cases of crimes against humanity in a bid to make the party leaderless. Same conspiracies are being plotted to kill rest of the alive leaders including Mir Quasem Ali. Besides, the leaders and activists of this party are being detained on regular basis from across the country as a part of the government’s strategy of eliminating this party. Many of them have been abducted brutally and already several of them have been shot to dead.

Some people claiming themselves as the law enforcers have abducted Barrister Arman, younger son of Jamaat’s central executive committee member Mir Quasem Ali from his residence on last 9th August. Till now, neither he has been produced before the court nor brought back to his family. Naturally, his family, relatives and well wishers are passing days amid severe tensions and panic. It should be mentioned further that, Barrister Arman has been discharging the duties as a defence counsel of his father. His absence is severely hampering the case preparation and resultantly new apprehension has been created for Mir Quasem Ali of getting no justice.

Such action of the government goes completely against the spirit of humanity. Whilst, it is the obligation of the government to secure the life and properties of the citizens, on the contrary, the government is abducting the dissident people and murdering them in the name of crossfire. We are deeply worried with the life of Barrister Arman.

Under the circumstances, on behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, I am declaring nationwide peaceful demonstration on 23rd August, Tuesday demanding the release of party’s detained leaders and activists including its central Executive Committee Member Mir Quasem Ali and also with the call to release and bring Barrister Arman back to his family. I am calling upon the party wings and units and seeking the assistance of the countrymen to make the declared program successful.”
