Jamaat-e-Islami urges to bring Barrister Arman back to his family; declares peaceful demonstration in all cities on Tuesday
Sunday, 14th August, 2016
Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 14th August, 2016 declaring peaceful demonstration on 16th August, Tuesday in all the cities across the country protesting the abduction of Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, the younger son and one of the defence counsels of Jamaat-e-Islami’s detained Central Executive Committee member Mir Quasem Ali from his residence along with the demand of bringing him back immediately.

“A group of people, claiming themselves as the member of the law enforcement agencies had picked up Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem from his residence on last 9th August, 11 pm. We along with his parents, relatives and well wishers are extremely worried and concerned as he is not produced before the court till today (14th August) and his trace is still not disclosed.

There is a directive of the High Court to produce a detainee before the court within 24 hours of his/her arrest. But Barrister Arman has not been produced before the court though 5 days have elapsed since his arrest. Even nobody is admitting his arrest claim. His family made several efforts to file a General Diary (GD) in the local police station but the on-duty police officers have denied accepting that plea. We are deeply concerned about his life due to such tricky strategies of the government. We are calling upon the authorities concerned to disclose his whereabouts immediately.

On behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, I am declaring peaceful demonstration on 16th August, Tuesday in all the cities across the country protesting the abduction of Barrister Arman along with the demand of bringing him back immediately. I am urging all the city units of Jamaat-e-Islami and seeking the kind assistance of the city dwellers to make the declared program successful.”
