Plain cloth personnel picked up Mir Quasem Ali’s son and defence counsel; Acting Secretary General condemns
Wednesday, 10th August, 2016
A group of plain cloth personnel, claiming themselves law enforcers have unlawfully picked up Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, the younger son of the Jamaat-e-Islami’s detained Central Executive Committee Member Mir Quasem Ali and one of his defence counsel from his residence in DOHS, Mirpur of the capital after 11 pm on last 9th August. Since then, the law enforcers have been denying the arrest. Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 10th August, 2016 severely protesting and condemning the aforesaid incident.

“We have no word to condemn the incident as ‘in the name of law enforcing agency members, a group of plain cloth personnel have unlawfully picked up detained Mir Quasem Ali’s son and his defence counsel Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman. More condemnable issue is, since the abduction incident, the officials of the law enforcement bodies have been denying the arrest claim.

Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman is one of the defence counsel of his father, detained Mir Quasem Ali.
Claiming them as law enforcers, some plain cloth personnel abducted him from his residence. But consequently, by denying the arrest claim, the law enforcement agencies have violated the domestic law and the constitution. Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem has been picked up in a bid to hamper the trial process of Mir Quasem Ali and also to deprive him from justice. I am calling upon the international human rights organizations and the lawyer communities to raise voice against such unlawful and inhuman activities of the government.

We along with his family, relatives and well wishers are in deep worries and tensions as the law enforcers are repeatedly denying the arrest claim of Barrister Arman. I am urging the concerned authorities to disclose the whereabouts of Barrister Arman immediately and to bring him back to his family. Otherwise, the government has to take the liabilities if he suffers from any damages.”
