Sunamganj district Jamaat Ameer and 3 others arrested; Acting Secretary General demands immediate release
Saturday, 01st October, 2016
Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 1st October, 2016 protesting the unjust arrest of 4 Jamaat leaders and activists from Sunamganj district including district unit Jamaat Ameer Maulana Tofayel Ahmad Khan and Chatok Upazila’s former Ameer and district unit Jamaat’s working committee member Maulana Jalal Uddin.

“The government has initiated conspiracy to make Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, a leaderless party and as a part of that conspiracy they have arrested 4 Jamaaat leaders and activists from Sunamganj district including district unit Jamaat Ameer Maulana Tofayel Ahmad Khan. They have become the victim of the government’s political vengeance.

The government is trying to weaken Jamaat-e-Islami by arresting the party men in order to linger the one party tyrannical rule which they had imposed upon the nation. Due to such crackdown and continuous suppression, repression and torture, this government has already been detached from the general masses. The government’s popularity reached at zero level almost. I am urging the countrymen to raise voice against the massive arrest drive and misrule of the incumbent government.

Finally, I am calling upon the authorities concerned to stop oppression and arrest drive against the opposition activists and to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir including Sunamganj district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Tofayel Ahmad Khan immediately.”
