Hamidur Rahman Azad rejects the false article of Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury; Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali was completely innocent
Monday, 05th September, 2016

Central Executive Committee member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 5th September, 2016 protesting the ill efforts of columnist Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury for demonizing the Jamaat’s central Executive Committee member Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali in his article titled “দুই যুগের দুই মীর কাসেমঃ পরিণতিও কি প্রায় অভিন্ন?” (Two Mir Quasem of two different era: With same fate?) published in Bengali daily ‘Jugantor’ today.

“Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury has made some nasty and indecent comments about Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali which has no basis. He placed such false and fictitious information in order to humiliate Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali. This article exposed his personal anguish and vengeance about Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali. What he has written about the role of Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali in 1971 is completely fictitious. Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali had no nexus with the mass killing, intellectual murder, torturing and raping women which had committed during the war of 1971. All these allegations against Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali are bogus.

Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury raised these allegations against Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali based on some rumors. In his article he mentioned that, “ I don’t know about the authenticity of these rumors about Mir Quasem.’ He further wrote that ‘Except some family members no one attended the funeral prayer of Mir Quasem.”

The countrymen are well informed that hundreds of funerals and prayer program held nationwide seeking blessings of Almighty Allah for the acceptance of martyrdom of Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali. Millions of people attended those occasions. If the government allowed any funeral in capital’s Sohrawardi Ground then the peoples like Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury could observe that those funerals were turning into a people’s wave. The popularity of Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali substantiated that he was innocent. Anti-Islamic quarters are conducting ill propaganda against him to tarnish his image now.

In this backdrop, I am urging Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury to be refrained from carrying out false and baseless propaganda against Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali.”
