Jamaat-e-Islami declares programs protesting unjust execution of Mir Quasem Ali; people will remember him for his benevolent activities
Saturday, 03rd September, 2016
Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 3rd September, 2016 protesting and condemning the unjust execution of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Central Executive Committee member, renowned Islamic economist, social worker and media personality Mir Quasem Ali after convicting him in a government lodged false and ill motivated case.

“Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali is completely innocent. Mir Quasem Ali has been hanged unjustifiably as the part of the government’s conspiracy to make Jamaat-e-Islami a leaderless party.

Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali started his struggle since his student life for establishing a welfare Islamic society. He was the founding Central President of Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir. He has played pivotal role for launching several Islamic and welfare institutions including Islami Bank, Islami Insurances, mosques, madrasa (religious school), etc. In particular, he was a pioneer to reach medical services at convenient price to the poor and impoverished people. The poverty stricken people of this country will remember him forever for his outstanding humanitarian activities. He has been executed only for his significant role in country’s Islamic movement.

Death penalty handed down in a false case of crimes against humanity against Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali. The prosecution could not prove the allegations brought against him. He has no nexus with those charges. Even his name was not found in the prosecution documents. Rather these documents, which had been submitted in the court to prove the charges, dates, places and time, it reversely substantiated that Mir Quasem Ali was not in the place of occurrence in those days. He was in capital Dhaka. Despite the evidences of his absence in Chittagong, the government produced false witnesses against him and the ministers made naked interference upon the judiciary repeatedly. Due to all these irregularities, Mir Quasem Ali has been deprived from justice and ultimately left this world very pathetically being a victim of government’s political vengeance. I am severely condemning such vindictive politics of the government.

The government, out of its political vendetta, has executed Mir Quasem Ali at 10.30 pm on 3rd September. This incident will be marked as a stigmatized chapter of the country’s political history. The government is murdering one after one Jamaat leaders in order to eliminate Jamaat-e-islami from this country. But the every single drop of blood of this martyr will take the initiatives of establishing Islamic welfare state into a new height. By the grace of Almighty Allah, based on these sacrifices, democracy, human rights and rule of law will be bolstered in this country.

The dirty role of the government became exposed through another incident. Some plain cloth dressed people, in the name of the law enforcers had picked up Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali’s son Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman from his residence forcefully. Still he is not returned to his family. Barrister Arman was discharging duties as a defence counsel of his father’s case.

Protesting the unjust execution of Mir Quasem Ali, on behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, I am declaring the following programs:

1.    Special prayer in home and abroad seeking the salvation of the departed soul of Mir Quasem Ali and for the acceptance his martyrdom on 4th September, Sunday.

2.    Nationwide peaceful strike from 6 am to 2 pm on 5th September, Monday protesting the execution of Mir Quasem Ali.

I am urging all fronts and wings of Jamaat-e-Islami and seeking the kind assistance of the countrymen to make the declared program successful.

Special Note: Strike will not be applicable for ambulances, fire services; hajj pilgrims bound vehicles, media transports and pharmacies.
