2 Chhatrashibir men killed in Jhinaidah gunfight
Friday, 01st July, 2016
According to the Jhinaidah district police, at least two people have been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police.

The gunfight took place at around 2.30am on Friday at a field of Tetulbaria village under Naldanga union of Jhenidah sadar upazila.

The deceased were identified as Shahid Al Mahmud (25), son of Rajab Ali Biswas at Badonpur village under Jhenidah sadar upazila, and Anis who hailed from Kushtia district.

Shahid Al Mahmud secured Fazil degree from Jhenidah Alia Madrasa and Anis secured Diploma Engineering degree from Jhenidah Polytechnic Institute.

Hasan Hafizur Rahman, OC of Jhenidah Sadar Police Station, said: “A gang of criminals opened fire targeting the police when they were patrolling in the area. In retaliation, police fired back that left two of them dead while others managed to flee the scene”.

But their families completely denied the police claim. They stated Shahid Al Mahmud and Anis had been picked up by the plain cloth dressed policemen 16 days back. But since the arrest, the law enforcers neither admitted their arrest nor were they produced before the court.

Getting no response from the law enforcers, the families of the victims hold press conference in the district press club demanding the trace of their missing family members. Then all on a sudden they came to know their sons have been murdered in an alleged gunfight.

Family members also drew the attention of the global human rights forum as they had apprehended that their sons could have been murdered extra judicially and they expressed such view in the press conference but regrettably the government took no initiatives to save them as both of the missing victims belong to the opposition student organization.
