Sunday, 12th June, 2016

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Profressor Mia Ghulam Parwar has issued the following statement on 12th June, 2016 condemning the unjust massive arrest of the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir.

“The government is damaging the sanctity of the holy Ramadan by conducting massive arrest drive against the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir in this month. In past 24 hours, the law enforcers have arrested 5 Jamaat men from Rangpur including Gongachora Upazila Jamaat Ameer Principal Shafiqul Islam, Manikganj south organizational district’s Upazila Ameer Maulana Nurul Islam and Harirampur Upazila Jamaat secretary Sekandor Ali, 6 Jamaat activists from Jessore district town including a woman, 15 Jamaat workers from Jessore east organizational district, 6 Jamaat activists and 4 Shibir activists from Jhinaidah, 13 Jamaat men from Kushtia, 7 Jamaat workers from Magura district, one from Norail, one from Meherpur, one Jamaat activist from Sylhet, 2 from Habiganj district, Moulovibazar district Chhatrashibir President Mahfuz Shumon, 2 Jamaat men from Sylhet north organizational district, one from Sylhet south organizational district, 4 Jamaat workers from Thakurgaon district, 3 from Dinajpur district, one from Panchagar district, one from Nilphamari and one from Sunamganj unlawfully as a part of their ongoing massive arrest drive.

The government is making an inhuman act by creating sufferings to the Muslims in fasting as they are arresting the Jamaat and Chhatrashibir activists unlawfully utilizing the law enforcers in this holy month of Ramadan. If the authority has minimum respect and trust for Ramadan, they could not create trouble for the fasting Muslims. I am urging the countrymen to protest against the ongoing arrest drive and harassment of the pious Muslims during this holy month of Ramadan.

I am calling upon the authorities concerned to show respect for Ramadan and to suspend the arrest drive and to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir immediately.”
