Police arrests several leaders of Sylhet district Jamaat-e-Islami; Hamidur Rahman Azad protests
Wednesday, 20th July, 2016

Central Executive Committee member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 20th July, 2016 protesting the unjust arrest of Sylhet north organizational district Jamaat Secretary Maulana Islam Uddin, Sylhet Sadar Upazila Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Ghulam Azam and Sylhet Sadar Upazila’s elected vice chairman Md. Joinuddin.

“Police has unlawfully arrested several leaders of Sylhet district Jamaat-e-Islami in order to harass them politically. All of them are completely innocent.

The government is detaining Jamaat leaders and activists from different places across the country. Sylhet Sadar Upazila’s vice chairman Md. Joinuddin is an elected public representative. The government has arrested him as they became envious of his popularity. The fascist face of the government has become exposed once again by these unjust arrests.

I am calling upon the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Sylhet north organizational district Jamaat Secretary Maulana Islam Uddin immediately.”
